With wild steelhead runs in decline across their native range, every year is a critical year for wild steelhead. But 2020 will be a particularly pivotal year for this iconic species as numerous critical decisions hang in the balance that will determine the future for some of our most important steelhead runs. Will Washington permit destructive steelhead net pens in Puget Sound? Will a disastrous dam be built on the Chehalis River that would decimate one of Washington?s largest steelhead strongholds? And will we be able to stem the tide of decline for imperiled steelhead on the famed Clearwater River?

We are at a critical juncture for wild steelhead, and their fate will largely depend on our collective ability to effectively advocate for this imperiled species in these decision-making processes. To ensure these junctures are positive ones for wild steelhead and the steelheading community, the WSC is working tirelessly to convince these decision-makers to protect wild steelhead and to put these iconic fish on the path to recovery, rather than expedite their continued decline.
