About The 1732 Gemeinhaus

Looks like your text is -175 character over the limit. Please shorten it to 200 characters or less.

Our Gemeinhaus log cabin church was built in 1732, 44 years before our Nation was even formed. It’s walls have heard stories of our historic founding fathers as they fought for our freedom. They stood strong through wars, storms, and a growing congregation. We are grateful for all of the men and women who came before us and kept this building alive and well. The Friends of the Gemeinhaus are now tasked with the responsibility of keeping it alive for many more years to come.

In order to preserve the Gemeinhaus and return it to its original 1732 state, we are looking to raise $100k to cover the cost of the restoration.

Initial restoration projects include:

  • Structural integrity of the exterior including a piping drainage system to address water damage.
  • Door thresholds around all doors must be improved or restored.
  • Front doors need to be removed and replaced with reproduction of more period correct doors.
  • Two other doors are not original and are ill-fitted and need to be replaced with period correct reproductions of the split “Dutch Door” style.
  • Wood floors in the main room are original and need to be repaired.
  • Two door openings on the inside divider wall are in poor condition and should be replaced with period correct doors.
  • All window frames need to be replaced with period correct framing.
  • Wooden divider wall needs to be restored with correct sized molding.
  • Floor in the entrance hallway needs to be replaced.
  • Hearth stone floor needs to be leveled and reset.

Restoring the Gemeinhaus means preserving its rich history for future generations to come!
