This World Parrot Day, celebrate not just parrots ? but the extraordinary biodiversity that keeps their world alive.

This design was inspired by a chick named Stitch, with his tiny head peering out of an ancient tree cavity, wide-eyed at the vast rainforest he had yet to explore. Tucked in, warm, and safe in the only home he'd ever known. Before his world changed.

In 2022, his nest tree came down while he was still inside it. His parents, tragically, did not survive the crash. Thanks to the quick action of the local community and Macaw Recovery Network?s field team, Stitch was rescued, rehabilitated and returned to the wild. But the truth is, he should have never needed rescuing.

Stitch's story is why we're here. Trees large enough to form nesting cavities for Great Green Macaws are increasingly rare, and many of those that remain are fragile. While the Mountain Almond tree is protected from logging, the microhabitat surrounding it is not. Severed from the symbiotic relationships and microclimate it needs to survive, the tree is left vulnerable to disease and death. And when the tree falls, the family inside falls with it.
